Project 5: Labour supply of immigrants

TP5 aims at deriving empirical insights that can inform strategies for sustainably increasing labour supply through immigration and integration policies.

The first part leverages a unique historical natural experiment to investigate the role of immigration in mitigating or exacerbating economic shocks.

The research focuses on the German Guest Worker Program, one of the largest labour recruitment programs (LRP) in Europe's history, to understand how the presence of immigrant workers affects economic resilience and stability.

The second part explores the factors influencing the labour force participation (LFP) of immigrants and the descendants of former guest workers in contemporary Germany using new survey data, focusing on deriving policy-relevant insights related to gender norms.
