Employers are alarmed by the increase in labour scarcity in many occupations and the likely exacerbation of the issue in the future due to demographic changes.

At the same time, due to changes in skill demands many employers plan to lay off workers in the near future.

Our project provides a first and comprehensive anatomy of tightness in the German labour market, how it has evolved over time and how it varies across occupations, regions, industries, and firms.

Moreover, the project examines how firms respond to hiring difficulties and changes in labour market tightness by adjusting their internal organization.
