The paper 'Leaving the Shadow' looks at software and hardware that employees regularly use without their company's knowledge (or permission) - so called Shadow IT Systems. Looking at 27 of such situations, we found that many companies have to find a way to deal with potentially innovative solutions that regularly suffer from technological issues or problems of how they are integrated into the organization. The authors present four distinct strategies and their reasoning on how they were chosen.
