Vorlesung und Übung

Studierende des Bachelor-Studiengangs Betriebswirtschaftslehre erhalten im Rahmen dieses Pflichtmoduls einen Überblick über Grundfragen und Entwicklungen im Themengebiet "Management". Hierfür wird in der Vorlesung und der begleitenden Übung zunächst ein fundierter theoretischer Hintergrund erarbeitet, der im Rahmen von Diskussionen kritisch überprüft wird. Das neugelernte Wissen wird im Rahmen von Unternehmensfallstudien und Übungsaufgaben angewandt. Ziel der Veranstaltung ist, die Studierenden in die Lage zu versetzen, wichtige Managementprobleme zu erkennen und mit Hilfe der vorgestellten Theorien, Konzepte und Instrumente zu bearbeiten.

Die Lehrinhalte umfassen die Geschichte der Managementforschung und -lehre, ausgewählte Managementtheorien, den Managementprozess, Organisationsgestaltung, Fragen der Führung und des Personalmanagement, Corporate Governance und Entrepreneurship.

Management Theory (Master)

Lecture and Seminar

The focus of this management theory course is “mergers and acquisitions” (M&A). M&A are important strategic options that allow firms to enhance their scope. The primary objective of the course is twofold. First, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the antecedents and consequences of these major strategic decisions. Second, they will apply their knowledge to an analysis of recent acquisition activities in a major industry. The course thus will be split into a theory part and a practice part. Lectures will provide the theoretical background for the analysis. Then student will analyze recent acquisition data and prepare industry reports of acquisition activities to get a better understanding of recent trends in the industry. Based on their results they will be able to provide recommendations for major firms within the industry. The course is taught in English.
